Club Penguin Wiki:Basic Club Penguin Tutorial
Welcome to the Club Penguin Wiki's Club Penguin tutorial.
Creating your Account and Activation
Naming
In order to play Club Penguin, you'll need to create a penguin account. Go to this website and click "Create a Penguin". Name your penguin whatever you wish, however, inappropriate names will either be:
- Renamed to P<<numbers>>
- An error that says "That penguin name is not allowed." will appear.
Colors
When you make a penguin, it has to be a certain color. You'll be able to choose from these colors:
If you do not like your penguin color, or if you want another, you can always buy new colors from the Penguin Style catalog in the Clothes Shop for 20 coins, even if you're a non-member.
E-Mail settings and password
You'll have to then make up a password for your account. Try to make it hard to guess in case someone wants to hack you. An effective one would be to have both both letters and numbers. A very strong password would include both capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols (Ex: !, @, #, $). No matter what you make your password, a good idea is to write it down along with your penguin name so you won't forget it. You will then need to put in your real email address, or your parents' email address if you don't have one (with their permission, of course).
Example
- Password: Password123
- E-Mail: [email protected]
Account activation
After the account creation, you will need to go to your email inbox and click on the link that came with it. This will activate your account for playing. If you cannot click on the link, then copy it (highlight the link with your cursor, right click, and click Copy), and then paste it into the address bar (right click on address bar, then click Paste). Then press enter, and it will activate it.
Starting the game
Log into your penguin, which will appear in the middle of the screen. You will then find yourself in the game! Don't worry about getting lost, as you can't ever be lost in Club Penguin Island, since you can always use your Map, on the bottom left hand corner, to instantly take you somewhere else. First, try going into some buildings. Have a look around, go upstairs and check out a few things. Once you've done that, go out of the Town and explore. If you think you've had enough, ask people to help you by starting the game. You can always ask an experienced penguin to tour you around! This will help you a lot, and Club Penguin has a special touring feature too.
Inventory
You will start with a hat and a background in your Inventory, along with the color you chose while creating your penguin (the color you are currently wearing). As a member, you will have access to purchase and wear all clothes on Club Penguin as long as you're a member (after your membership expires you will no longer be able to wear the clothes only purchasable by members). As a non-member, you will only have access to colors, flags, backgrounds, a few items on the first page of the Penguin Style catalog, and some free items at parties.
Playing minigames
When you explore, you will often find yourself near a minigame - or another penguin asking you for a minigame. If you want to know more about this, click here. Most of the games will give you coins, while some give you exclusive items such as Card-Jitsu. Coins can help you buy clothes, furniture, or other objects for your penguin.
Puffles
Once you have gotten yourself started, there are many other things you can do with your penguins. Once you get to the Pet Shop, you can get your very own Puffles. Puffles are small creatures that come in several different colors, each having a different personality. Non-members can only adopt red and blue puffles from the pet shop. However, non-members with a code for the Treasure Book can adopt any except the rainbow and gold puffle (since those aren't in the treasure book). Members can adopt any puffle from the pet shop, as well as complete quests to adopt the rainbow and gold puffles for free. There are currently 12 types of puffle available to adopt. Previously, the maximum number of puffles that you could adopt was 20. However, with the release of Backyards, penguins can now adopt up to 75 puffles (it is unknown if this rule applies for non-members as well). You have to maintain your puffles' needs every day often, using the Puffle Card, or else they will run away. See this article for more information.
Membership
The paid content of Club Penguin is known as "membership". Penguins that have paid for membership are called members. You can become a member by going to the 'Membership' section of the Club Penguin website or the 'Membership' link above when you're playing and then choosing your membership plan. Members have access to extra features in Club Penguin. See this article for more information.
